Yance covers many topics but not in enough depth to make this book useful for lay readers, except for the sample recipes and coverage of the natural ways to relieve the side effects of chemotherapy. The chapters on the chemical composition of herbs and supplements are more suitable for medical doctors, herbalists, and nutritionists. You need to read this.

A MUST read before you take any crazy harmful drugs if you have been diagnosed. Do your own research and tell your Dr. what you want. Don't ask him what you need. They know absolutely NOTHING for certain in the world of cancer except how to burn through bazillions of dollars under the guise of research.

A cooperative working relationship between "allopathic" physicians and "naturalists" is long overdue in my opinion, and my opinion ought to be worth something. I am a physician with 25 years experience in cancer medicine and I have board certifications in internal medicine, medical oncology, hematology, and radiation oncology. Mr. Yance's book is a step in the right direction, and I feel it is a worthwhile reference for any physician who is interested in the nutritional welfare of his patients. The book is far from perfect, however. For example, Mr. Yance overstates the risk of carcinogenesis from therapeutic radiation, presents site-specific side effects such as dry mouth as if they were general effects of radiation, underplays the value and effectiveness of radiation for common adult tumors such as breast cancer, and claims benefit for herbal or nutritional remedies for side effects of cancer treatment even when they have been shown to be ineffective in clinical trials. Administration of vitamin B12 and folate to prevent chemotherapy-induced neuropathy is the most egregious example. At the same time, glutamine is not mentioned for prevention of neuropathy though it is known to be useful, at least for prevention of nerve injury from vinca alkaloids.
Another problem is that much of the nutritional information is too technically advanced for most lay readers. One would have to know more biochemistry than the majority of phyicians to wade through the terminology.
Despite its shortcomings, I think Mr. Yance's book is a valuable resource and would recommend it to my medical colleagues. My advice to the general public is to go to the best source for information about cancer treatments. As a medical and radiation oncologist, I wouldn't try to inform my patients about nutritional therapies, and I sure wouldn't ask a nutritionist their opinion about radiation or chemotherapy. Discuss all the therapeutic issues with your main healthcare provider. If he or she won't discuss herbal, nutritional, and other alternative or complementary modalities, ask for other opinions.

2000 pages of information in a 400-page book!

Boy ... this is not an easy book, took me months to finish it!
This is absolutely an advanced level book from two of the biggest motor-drive experts (expert cannot describe it, I would call Professors Novotny, Crause, Lippo, Blaschke, and Hasse "THE GODS of Motor-Drives", since they basically created and developed this field! Anyway ...) that contains the fruits of their decades of core research and extensive experience. You cannot find one single extra/unnecessary word in this 400 page book. Every written line is needed to be there and should be carefully read and fully digested by the reader. I wish Professors Novotny and Lipo would have published newer editions of this book with some update and expansion.

Note: This is not a beginner's book (there are other great text books out there if you want to start motor-drives).

The book is a useful reference for anyone who wishes to understand vector control better. It's an advanced text and the reader should have a background in AC machine control from a text like Krishnan's or Krause's before they can grasp the content of this. I was expecting better and clearer content in the discussion of switching rules and models. Nonetheless it is a useful buy.

Quite possibly the best investment you will ever make

Let me say straightaway that I know Andy Cope (one of this book's two authors) on a personal basis. We're not drinking buddies or anything, but we come from the same small town and we're fond of each other. I don't think he's famous enough yet for this to class as name dropping (though I expect that day will arrive), so why mention it?

I mention it because, knowing him personally, I can tell you that Andy is a truly inspirational guy. He wasn't born special and he wasn't born happy, and for a long time he lived the same kind of life that most people live, making the same kinds of mistakes that most people make, and feeling sorry for himself when things weren't going his way. Then, as a student of Psychology, he noticed something - there was a vast amount of published research into the causes of human unhappiness, but hardly any about what makes people happy! At this point, he decided to do something about it, changing his life for the better along the way.

And now you can make your life better too, by following the ideas in this down-to-earth and effective little book. You'll get carefully selected nuggets of wisdom, easy to follow examples, and straightforward exercises to get you thinking about your world and how you see it. But most of all you'll get six simple principles which you can use to help yourself become a happier person. I just can't recommend it highly enough.

Simple and inspiring

I first heard about co-author Andy Cope from a facilitator on a fabulous training course. I had asked the facilitator if he could recommend anybody for my company who provide dance teachers nationwide to teach dance to children. I wanted something positive, motivating and inspirational so the teachers could pass on their new found energy, enthusiasm and inspiration to the children. I borrowed this book, read it within a couple of days and found it difficult to put down. The witty sense of humour and bitesized chunks made it easy to revisit even if my reading had been interrupted. Nuggets of inspiration from quotes and anecdotes make this book wonderfully accessible without the academic jargon of positive psychology. I have now purchased this book and provided staff with a copy each. Upon revisiting it, have realised how much I had forgotten and have made a note to myself to read this on six-monthly basis to notice those mood hooverers and apply The 90/10 Principle of choosing to respond positively to those negative things that happen to us all and are out of our control. I throughly recommend this book to anyone who is wanting a simple approach to making every day life a more positive thing!

As such I am used to reading a plethora of business, motivational, peak performance, coaching, team building psychology type of books. In fact I have enough books at home, on these subjects, to sink several ships. So my comments on this poor book are based upon real and theoretical personal development experience.

This book is an easy read and gets straight to the point. Whilst the content is an amalgamation of a lot of other books I have read, I have not read a book that delivers so much, in such a concise way, in a long time. The aim of the book is in essence to get the reader to think positively about their lives and what happens to them. It tries to get readers to "reframe" what happens to them and to see things in a positive way. It uses anecdotes to illustrate the most important points which make the process of change easier to understand. It gives the reader insights into how other people/personalities can impact upon their own happiness and so affect your own brilliance. It offers sound solutions and good advice on how to fix negativity. This is a very good and thoughtful book, which should help anyone who reads it to think and act in a more positive driven way.

For me the definitive book on mind dynamics is by Maxwell Maltz, Psychocybernetics. This book looks at how the mind works and how to reprogramme it for success. Maltz wrote his book in the 1960's and it is still the definitive guide to changing how a person views their world. The Art of Being Brilliant uses ideas present in Maltz's work, but makes how to use the ideas, much more clear and accessible. So if you want to change your life and develop a more optimistic mind frame, try reading this book as I am sure it will help.

Sergeant Charles Windolph was the last white survivor of the Battle of the Little Big Horn when he described it nearly seventy years later. A six-year veteran of the Seventh Cavalry, Windolph fought in Benteen’s troop on that fatal Sunday and recalls in vivid detail the battle that wiped out Custer’s command. A valuable account of the Custer tragedy

It is difficult to really rate a work like this. This is the story of Charles Windolph, the last survivor of the Battle of the Little Bighorn, in his own, simple words. Windolph told his story to a father and son historian team in the 1930s and 40s. Windolph's distinction as last survivor is a bit misleading--he was the last man who was present at the battle to die, but his title as last survivor does not mean he was with Custer's column of troops. He wasn't. In fact, he was under Benteen, and was one of many who survived the battle because they weren't as heavily engaged in it as Custer.
Windolph presents an interesting perspective on the battle, and seems relatively objective. He does tend to romanticize a little, but for the most part he refrains from throwing blame on Custer, Reno, Benteen, or anyone else (though he does state up front that he is partial to Benteen). His story is not all that unique when compared to other primary accounts of the battle, but it is nevertheless valuable as the testimony of a survivor of that horrible tragedy.
Included with Windolph's narrative are a number of primary documents, cobbled together in chapters and laced throughout with author's commentary. This is all right, but it would have been better to present these documents in their entirety, with only enough commentary (perhaps in the form of footnotes) to give the reader an idea of the background surrounding the documents. Still, the Hunts have done a relatively good job of remaining objective as well, something that is rare in a Custer historian. This is perhaps not the best account of the Battle of the Little Bighorn, but it is nevertheless an important one.

This book is compiled from the found writings of a sergeant of the Seventh Cavalry who survived the Battle of the Little Big Horn. The first hand accounts of men like Sergeant Windolph and Theodore Goldin are very valuable and interesting reading. They were not men defending their performance as were the officers like Benteen, Reno, and Godfrey. They had their biases but didn't have to grind axes. This account is worthwhile reading for students of the Seventh Cavalry and the Little Big Horn campaign.
