Amazing, just like the original Sherlock Holmes stories.

This is the second book by Copland that I've read, and I absolutely adored it. It was full of extremely well-placed twists and turns, and so suspenseful that I was turning pages as quickly as I could just to discover what would happen next. As soon as I thought that I had figured the mystery out or had put the pieces together, something new would happen and I would realize that I was completely off. The storyline was brilliant. What do the unique belt of a murdered American Indian and Her Majesty the Queen have in common? Sherlock Holmes, of course. A gorgeous, handcrafted silver with turquoise stones man's belt and buckle turn up in Hyde Park, so a street urchin brings it to Sherlock, hoping for a reward. However, the maker and wearer of the belt and buckle shows up dead in a hotel room, and Scotland Yard calls upon Sherlock. Sherlock finds a secret key to a replica of the Crown Jewels, and the real Jewels are in danger. And there, the craziness begins. The Queen's Diamond Jubilee could be ruined, so Sherlock, Watson, and even Her Majesty team up to set everything right. This novel is full of suspense and on-the-edge-of-your-seat action from beginning to end, and I loved every minute of it.

and what we wind up with is another brilliantly solved murder case

What does a murdered Native American Indian in London, a one-of-a-kind hand-crafted and jeweled belt, and the Crown of Jewels all have in common? Sherlock Holmes is on the case, and once again, he shows his genius with a thorough investigation of all three. In “The Adventure of the Blue Belt Buckle, the Diamond Jubilee is upcoming and time is of the essence as Sherlock Holmes works hand-in-hand with Scotland Yards to solve this mystery. Although more in the background in this case, due to the chance of his identity being revealed, Holmes is still the major key to discovery.

Author Craig Stephen Copland leads us down the path of deductive reasoning via Sherlock Holmes, and what we wind up with is another brilliantly solved murder case. His loyal sidekick, Dr. John Watson is the narrator as always, and Mr. Copland continues the classic feel of the original mysteries in his pastiche series.

Great read and fun story!

I was lucky enough to be able to read this over the fast few days. It definitely reminded me the most of the old Sherlock Holmes stories. This was fun to read as I found myself trying to pick up on clues and solve the mystery myself throughout the reading. Although I'd think I was correct, I would get thrown off and didn't quite solve it on my own. All the characters worked well together and this was another story I found that kept me on the edge of my seat. I like that the story was based in London as well. Scotland and Holmes worked well together cracking the case.

The author writes in a clear and gentle voice that guides the reader through a simple and effective approach to eating. Fiction? Really?

From time to time, I come across a work of fiction that is so obviously written by someone who has experience with the subject matter as to make it come alive. The Beloved Daughter is one such book.

Most of what I know of the conditions in North Korea in general, and for believers specifically, is in small bits and pieces from various missionary organizations. I've never doubted what they described, though it's hard to grasp how inhumane humans can be to one another when you only read a paragraph here and there. Likewise with how irrational people can be simply because of the name of Jesus.

Alana Terry has written a masterpiece that puts life in perspective in North Korea. That takes me out of the safety of my US life and transports me into the prisons where my brothers and sisters in Christ survive, somehow - or not. It also puts "free" life for Christians in North Korea in perspective. The constant observation of surroundings and suspicious people, the need for places to hide even in the home, to distrust even those people closest to you.

Because of Alana Terry's book, The Beloved Daughter, I will no longer be so blase when I hear of prisoners in NK, or of torture of one of my brothers or sisters there. I've "seen" the conditions in those prisons. I don't know how they survive at all. Prayer will be more than a simple "Bless them" from this time on. Thank you, Alana, for painting this picture for me and for all who will read and let it affect them so profoundly.

Beautiful and Tragic

This book really hits home for me. Because I'm half Korean, (My mother was born near Seoul) I had a certain level of intimacy with the characters, so that even the names sounded familiar to me. And this made me especially sensitive to the abuse and torture of the characters and their horrid situations.

Abuse of Christians in North Korea is a current situation, not something off in the distant past. It's reality today. The author does a phenomenal job of making their plight a reality for readers who are completely clueless to the struggle of the underground church.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - but have tissues handy.

I received my copy of "The Beloved Daughter" yesterday and.... read the entire thing yesterday. I really enjoyed the story line as well as how the different characters were connected. It is easy to forget this story is set in modern days and not centuries ago with all the horrific things that happened to the characters (if you haven't read this story - I promise it isn't all bad - there are great messages of love and perseverance). It certainly opens one's eyes to what goes on in our world. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to learn about it. I did not find the character's names confusing because most characters are only in the novel for a short time and each in a unique situation (all revolving around one main character). Although not a long book, it covers so much. Religious persecution is very much alive today and this book reminds us of how it happens behind closed doors. A must read (with a box of tissues). Even if you are not a person of faith, this book will still speak to you about love and compassion.

The road to success is pavement with hardship

Excellent characters, a good plot and an interesting perceptive view on the struggles of young African Americans in the 20's and 30's. This novel is highly recommended for an enlightening heart warming read.

Wonderful grace-filled book!

I love this book! It is gull of God's grace and makes me feel relief and joy at not having to 'do' anything to get God to love, save, help, free or favor me - I can just relax and 'be' loved, saved, helped, freed and favored, all because of Jesus' finished work on the cross! There are such wonderful topics covered in this book, such as 'getting more anointing' vs. awakening to the Spirit already inside you', how 'you can never fail in God's eyes', the unconditional love of God for us, how God forgives the world before it repents and calls on us just to believe this already true fact, how as the new creation in Christ we are actually holy and free from sin's power, how we are not under the law anymore, and many more. Each chapter is a grace-feast. I am re-reading this one, just loving to be washed over with the good news that really is so good it's true - God really does give us everything as a free gift through Jesus, with no conditions or requirements - He truly does 'save us for nothing' - we don't have to do anything to get , keep or deserve this salvation, for it is really ours with no strings attached!

f you are tired of the religious treadmill and sometimes feel you can never be good enough to please God, this book will be like water to your soul. It is just what I needed and God has encouraged me so much through it, helping me remember that through Jesus, my old yucky self really is dead and I really am a new, beloved, righteous, whole, normal person in union with God - and for someone who has always struggled to 'get closer to God', it is such a relief to know that Jesus brought me into union with God, and you can't get any closer than that!
